Bones and Breath
You're coming back to life (free workbook inside)
As we enter the beginning of spring and the beginning of Holy Week, there is a simple yet powerful message both Christ and His Creation are proclaiming:
God is bringing dead things to life.
I was laying in bed Friday morning, worshiping and praying to the Lord before I got my day started when this conviction hit my spirit. I began to spontaneously and passionately petition God to let His wind blow—from east to west and north to south. As I went deeper in prayer, I began to see things that were dead coming to life. It was the image of the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel 37 and immediately I understood this:
The wind of God is about to blow and bring what’s been dead back to life.
Dead dreams are coming to life.
Dead bodies are coming to life.
Dead minds are coming to life.
Dead marriages are coming to life.
Dead ministries are coming to life.
Let’s read Ezekiel 37:1-14 together:
1 The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”
4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. 8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.
11 Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. 14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’”
Notice how God was revealing His plan to build His people back up both physically and spiritually. Bones and breath.
So here’s the question:
What’s been dead in your life?
Maybe you have been dead.
Tired.
Broken.
Lifeless.
Hopeless.
And hanging on by a thread.
I have good news for you.
God is bringing you to life again.
This message of life to dead things is for every one of us if we position ourselves to receive it. Let God begin the process of spring cleaning, both in the natural and the spiritual. Because some, maybe many, things need to be left in the dead, dry places.
Some things need to die so you can live.
Immediately after the image of the valley of dry bones came the image of a river flowing through the dry places and the declaration of Isaiah 43:19:
“See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.”
You see this isn’t just life for a moment. This is sustained life, by the rivers of God.
God’s wind is about to blow. Will you catch it? Will you arise to life?
I don’t want you to miss this, so I created a mini-workbook to help you partner with God and what He is doing in this season.
I pray this blesses you as we enter into a time of reflection and remembrance of what God did through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.
I’m excited for spring y’all.
If this message resonated with you, confirmed some things, or just encouraged you, I’d love to hear from you in the comments. It certainly blessed me.
With love,
Ireana
